Aviation News – UK-based 2Excel Aviation has announced plans to evaluate Electra Aero’s EL9 Ultra Short aircraft as a potential fleet addition, seeking a cleaner and more versatile replacement for legacy aircraft. The strategic collaboration aims to introduce hybrid-electric ultra-short flight technology across UK and European regional networks.

2Excel Aviation revealed its intent to become a future commercial operator following an agreement finalized on August 5, 2026. Under the agreement, the aviation services company will partner with US-based developer Electra Aero to execute a comprehensive European flight demonstration tour planned for 2027.

​The upcoming European trials will center on Electra’s two-seat EL2 technology demonstrator, nicknamed Goldfinch, which recently completed an extensive flight testing program in the United States. Evaluating the demonstrator serves as a vital operational stepping stone toward introducing the full-scale, nine-passenger EL9 production aircraft into commercial service.

​Technically, the EL9 Ultra Short relies on blown-lift technology, utilizing electric motors along the wing leading edge to force air over large flaps. This aerodynamic design generates exceptional low-speed lift, allowing the aircraft to take off and land in under 165 feet (50 meters)—roughly ten percent of the distance required by conventional planes. The hybrid-electric powerplant combines turbine generators with battery storage, delivering a 500-mile range with reduced emissions and quiet acoustics suitable for space-constrained urban and regional locations.

​The integration of ultra-short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) platforms promises to transform regional travel by bypassing traditional hub airports in favor of small, localized access points. Regional flight operators and logistics networks can explore technical updates and trial schedules directly through official corporate disclosures as regulatory certification progresses.

By combining 2Excel Aviation’s operational capabilities with Electra’s innovative blown-lift propulsion, the initiative establishes a practical blueprint for low-emission transport.
