Aviation News – Bell Textron has been selected to advance to the second phase of the US Army’s Flight School Next competition, a program shaping the future of military pilot training. The decision keeps Bell and its industry partners in contention to provide a next-generation training solution for Army aviators.
The Flight School Next program aims to modernize how the US Army trains pilots, with industry teams competing to deliver an integrated, turnkey approach. Bell’s selection reflects its long-standing relationship with the Army, which spans more than 70 years and includes trainer aircraft such as the H-13 Sioux, UH-1H, and TH-67. The Bell 505 now represents the latest evolution of this lineage.
At the center of Bell’s proposal is the Bell 505, a light, single-engine helicopter designed for modern training environments. The aircraft’s digital cockpit, safety features, and handling characteristics are intended to bolt advanced training capability onto the Army’s curriculum while reducing complexity and operating costs.
“We are honored to move forward in the Army’s Flight School Next program,” said Jeffrey Schloesser, Bell’s senior vice president of strategic pursuits. “With Bell’s extensive history in military flight training, the proven Bell 505, and the expertise of our teammates, we are confident that our turnkey solution will support the Army in developing the next generation of Aviation Warfighters.”
Looking ahead, the next phase of the competition will further assess aircraft performance, training systems, and support concepts. The outcome could influence the structure of Army flight training for decades, setting new standards for efficiency and readiness.
