Aviation News July 4, 2025 – Air Algérie, the national airline of Algeria, has confirmed an order for 16 ATR 72-600 aircraft, intended to support the launch of its newly announced regional airline.
The agreement, revealed on July 4, 2025, includes not only the aircraft but also a full-flight simulator for the ATR 72-600. The contract further strengthens the longstanding partnership between Air Algérie and aircraft manufacturer ATR, a relationship that has spanned over 20 years.
The turboprop aircraft will be powered by advanced PW127XT engines and configured with 72 seats. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2028.
Air Algérie’s new regional division will operate under the name Domestic Airline, adding to the carrier’s portfolio of subsidiaries. Currently, Air Algérie owns three other subsidiaries: Air Algérie Catering, Air Algérie Cargo, and Amadeus Algérie.
The airline already has experience operating ATR aircraft, with a fleet that includes 12 ATR 72-500s and three ATR 72-600s, acquired through previous orders placed in 2008 and 2014. Air Algérie first introduced ATR aircraft into its operations in 2003.
