Urban Air Mobility and eVTOL

One of the show’s biggest technology highlights was Vertical Aerospace, which performed the first public eVTOL transition flight at Farnborough. The aircraft successfully transitioned from vertical take-off to wing-borne flight and back, marking an important milestone for commercial electric aviation.

Other key trends included:

  • Growing interest in urban air mobility (UAM).
  • Hybrid-electric propulsion as a practical step toward longer-range eVTOL operations.
  • Government and military interest in eVTOL aircraft for logistics and defense missions.
  • Increasing focus on certification and commercial operations before the end of the decade.

Other highlights

  • Strong emphasis on defense, autonomous systems and counter-drone technologies.
  • Airbus and partners showcased progress on hybrid-electric aircraft research.
  • Boeing expanded international partnerships for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat autonomous combat aircraft.
  • Sustainability, digital technologies and advanced manufacturing remained central themes throughout the exhibition.
