Aviation News – European aerospace giant Airbus has officially inaugurated its tenth A320 family final assembly line inside a massive, repurposed production facility in Toulouse, France. The highly anticipated manufacturing expansion dramatically increases the company’s narrowbody production capacity at the exact site where engineers previously built the iconic A380 superjumbo.
The sophisticated industrial addition marks the second final assembly line to enter active service at the historic Jean-Luc Lagardère facility. Top industry figures gathered to commemorate the milestone during a special opening ceremony hosted by Airbus Chief Executive Officer Guillaume Faury and Commercial Aircraft CEO Lars Wagner.
This manufacturing deployment comes as a direct response to unprecedented airline demand for next-generation single-aisle commercial jets. Historically utilized exclusively for building the world’s largest passenger double-deckers, the repurposed Toulouse plant now successfully integrates into a broader, global single-aisle production architecture.
By utilizing the vast footprint of the existing infrastructure, the assembly line functions as a state-of-the-art center equipped with digital production controls, automated parts logistics, and advanced robotics. This layout allows workers to maximize single-aisle output, helping the firm safely increase its broader operational tempo toward a target rate of 75 single-aisle jets per month.
