Reuben Brothers and Joby Aviation to Launch Air Taxi Vertiport in Heart of Los Angeles

Joby Aero Inc

Aviation News – Reuben Brothers has formed a strategic alliance with Joby Aviation to establish a high-tech vertiport at the Park Elm Residences in Century City, Los Angeles. This partnership aims to integrate all-electric air taxi services into one of the world’s most congested urban environments, significantly cutting travel times for residents and commuters.

The project will transform the existing helipad atop the South Tower of Century Plaza into a dedicated hub for eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) operations. By leveraging existing infrastructure, the partners avoid the lengthy construction timelines typically associated with urban transit projects. The selection of this iconic skyline location highlights the push to bring advanced air mobility to premium residential and business districts.

This development follows Joby Aviation’s recent success in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the company completed a series of piloted demonstration flights. These tests served as a critical proof of concept, moving the technology from a futuristic vision toward a commercial reality. The Century City site is strategically positioned to serve as a flagship node in a broader Los Angeles aerial network.

The Joby aircraft operates using distributed electric propulsion, making it significantly quieter than traditional helicopters and entirely emission-free during flight. The new vertiport will be equipped with specialized charging infrastructure to support rapid turnaround times between flights. This operational efficiency allows the aircraft to function like a ride-sharing service in the sky, bypassing ground-level traffic with minimal noise impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
