Aviation News – EHang Holdings has successfully completed the first-ever passenger-carrying flights of its EH216-S pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Mexico. This milestone, achieved during the Tulum Air Show 2026, marks a transformative moment for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) across the Latin American region.

The landmark demonstrations took place at Tulum International Airport as part of the Feria Aeroespacial México (FAMEX). EHang collaborated with its local operator partner, Air Mobility, to execute the flights, showcasing the aircraft’s readiness for integration into busy airport environments. The selection of Tulum for this debut highlights the region’s focus on high-value tourism and the need for modern, sustainable transportation solutions.

The initiative aims to address the increasing demand for efficient, low-emission mobility in major tourism hubs. By successfully navigating the airport setting, the EH216-S demonstrated its potential for diverse applications, including airport-to-resort shuttle services and scenic aerial tours over Mexico’s coastal destinations. This development places Mexico at the forefront of the intelligent air mobility movement in the Western Hemisphere.

Technically, the EH216-S operates as a pilotless eVTOL, utilizing an autonomous flight control system that eliminates the need for a traditional cockpit crew. The aircraft’s electric propulsion ensures a quiet, eco-friendly footprint, while its vertical takeoff capability allows it to operate from compact “vertiports” or existing airport infrastructure. This operational flexibility is expected to reduce ground congestion and significantly cut travel times for travelers.
