AviationNews – Archer Aviation has confirmed a major expansion of its operations in the Middle East, joining a high-profile consortium to launch electric air taxi services across Saudi Arabia. In partnership with The Helicopter Company (THC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the US-based manufacturer will deploy its “Midnight” eVTOL aircraft to provide sustainable transport solutions for the Kingdom’s burgeoning “giga-projects,” including the futuristic city of NEOM.

The agreement, finalized in the last few hours, solidifies a strategic framework between Archer and THC, the premier rotorcraft operator in Saudi Arabia. This expanded consortium aims to establish a “sandbox” environment for rapid flight testing and route validation, ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place for commercial operations. The collaboration focuses on connecting remote, high-value tourist destinations and urban centers, addressing the unique logistical challenges posed by the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 developments.

At the heart of this initiative is the Midnight, Archer’s flagship electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Designed to carry four passengers and a pilot, the Midnight is engineered for rapid, back-to-back flights with minimal charge time, offering a quiet and emission-free alternative to traditional helicopters. Crucially, the operational rollout is being developed in close alignment with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, a standard that Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is utilizing to streamline its own certification processes.

Emphasizing the transformative potential of this partnership, Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer Aviation, highlighted the strategic alignment between the two entities. “Partnering with The Helicopter Company allows us to integrate our Midnight aircraft into an ecosystem that is already building the future of global tourism,” Goldstein stated. “Together, we are not just introducing a new vehicle; we are creating a sustainable transportation network that matches the scale and vision of projects like NEOM.”

The deployment of these electric air taxis represents a pivotal shift in Urban Air Mobility (UAM), moving from concept to concrete implementation in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. As certification milestones are met, the consortium plans to scale operations significantly, aiming to reduce travel times between key economic hubs and resort destinations by replacing hours of car travel with minutes of flight.

In summary, Archer Aviation’s deepened alliance with The Helicopter Company marks a critical step in bringing electric flight to Saudi Arabia. By targeting the transport needs of mega-developments like NEOM, the partnership is positioned to lead the regional adoption of sustainable advanced air mobility.
