Aviation News – The Royal Air Force has deployed its joint Typhoon squadron with Qatar, 12 Squadron, to the Gulf for defensive operations amid rising regional tensions, underscoring the strategic importance of UK-Qatar security cooperation.
The deployment forms part of the UK-Qatar Defence Assurance Agreement, highlighting the enduring defence partnership between the two countries at a critical time for regional stability.
12 Squadron is a unique joint RAF–Qatar Emiri Air Force unit, created to deepen operational integration, training, and interoperability. The squadron’s presence in the Gulf reflects commitments agreed under the bilateral defence framework and follows ongoing cooperation initiatives between London and Doha.
The Eurofighter Typhoon provides advanced air defence capabilities, including air policing, rapid response, and deterrence missions. Its deployment enhances situational awareness and contributes to the protection of shared interests, reinforcing a defensive posture rather than an escalatory one.
