Aviation News – India and France are moving closer to a major follow-on agreement for additional Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force, with negotiations expected to gain pace ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron’s planned visit in February 2026. The potential deal is seen as critical to addressing India’s growing fighter aircraft shortfall.

Recent Indian media reports indicate that New Delhi is considering a government-to-government framework that would combine a large new IAF order with expanded local manufacturing. The discussions build on earlier Rafale acquisitions and reflect India’s push to strengthen combat capability while supporting domestic defense production.

The Rafale is a multi-role fighter designed for air superiority, strike, and reconnaissance missions, offering advanced sensors and weapons integration. Additional aircraft would act as a bolt in the IAF’s force structure, reinforcing operational readiness as older platforms are phased out.
