AviationNews – Dubai-based carrier flydubai substantially expands its commitment to the Boeing 737 MAX family, signing a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 75 additional aircraft at the Dubai Airshow. This strategic move cements the aircraft as the backbone of the airline’s fleet and is vital to supporting the ambitious growth of the carrier’s network and Dubai’s vision for aviation expansion.
The agreement, announced on November 19, 2025, represents flydubai’s fourth order for the 737 MAX model and includes an option for a further 75 planes, signaling a substantial long-term investment. This development comes on the heels of the airline’s recent landmark order for 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft, underscoring a dual-fleet strategy aimed at meeting rapidly increasing travel demand across its markets. The new order builds on flydubai’s existing fleet of 96 Boeing 737 aircraft.
The 737 MAX family is celebrated for its operational efficiency, which plays a crucial role in flydubai’s network strategy, currently spanning over 135 destinations. The new jets offer enhanced fuel efficiency and extended range capabilities over previous generations, allowing the airline to serve new routes and replace older aircraft. The flexibility to select from the 737-8, 737-9, and the 737-10 variants ensures the carrier can tailor its fleet to specific capacity and route requirements.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, emphasized the strategic importance of the purchase: “We are proud to place another 737 MAX order with Boeing, a trusted partner that has played a key role in growing our network to its current scale. Reliable aircraft availability and timely deliveries are vital to the ongoing growth of our industry, and this agreement ensures we remain well-positioned for future growth.”
This substantial order, valued at an estimated $13 billion at list prices, positions flydubai for aggressive expansion aligned with the colossal development of Dubai World Central (DWC) airport. The injection of the new, highly efficient aircraft will dramatically increase both passenger capacity and operational reach, enabling the carrier to meet the anticipated surge in international air travel.
The Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing secures a critical component for flydubai’s future fleet modernization and capacity planning, ensuring the airline can effectively cater to the growing demand for air travel from its hub in Dubai. As the carrier diversifies its narrow-body fleet, the firm commitment to the 737 MAX family guarantees a powerful continuation of its low-cost, high-frequency operational model.
