Aviation News – Ireland strengthens airlift and maritime patrol capabilities with final C295 delivery
The Irish Air Corps has officially received its third and final Airbus C295 aircraft at Casement Aerodrome on October 7, 2025, completing a €300 million modernization program that enhances Ireland’s air transport and maritime surveillance capacity. The acquisition marks the largest single equipment procurement in the history of the Irish Defence Forces.
The delivery concludes a multi-year initiative to replace aging aircraft and expand Ireland’s ability to respond to national and international missions. Two earlier C295 “Persuader” variants are already operating in maritime surveillance (MSA) roles, while the newly delivered aircraft is configured specifically for transport and utility operations.
Designed for versatility and endurance, the Airbus C295 offers Ireland a modern platform capable of conducting troop transport, logistics support, medical evacuation, and humanitarian or non-combatant evacuation missions. Its short takeoff and landing capability, advanced avionics, and robust design make it ideal for operations in diverse conditions both at home and abroad.
“This milestone represents a major step forward for the Air Corps and the Defence Forces,” said Lieutenant General Seán Clancy, Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces. “The C295 fleet greatly enhances our operational flexibility, readiness, and ability to support Ireland’s commitments domestically and internationally.”
With the program now complete, the Air Corps is set to benefit from a fully integrated fleet capable of delivering critical airlift and surveillance operations for years to come. The acquisition underscores Ireland’s commitment to strengthening national defense infrastructure and modernizing its air capabilities.
