Aviation News – A Rossiya Airlines Sukhoi Superjet 100 and a Hainan Airlines Airbus A330-300 collided on the ground at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) yesterday evening, disrupting taxiway traffic at Russia’s busiest airport.

The Rossiya Superjet was scheduled for St. Petersburg, while the Hainan Airlines widebody was bound for Beijing. The incident occurred during taxiing operations, limiting ground movements and temporarily slowing airport traffic. Authorities have not yet reported injuries, though both aircraft sustained damage.

Ground collisions typically involve wingtip or fuselage contact during maneuvering. Such incidents can cause localized disruptions but are usually contained quickly by airport operations staff. At Sheremetyevo, the affected taxiways were cleared as airport authorities managed rerouting to maintain flight schedules.

A spokesperson for Rossiya Airlines said the airline was cooperating with investigators and emphasized that “passenger safety remained uncompromised during the incident.” Hainan Airlines also confirmed it was assisting with the inquiry and providing support to affected passengers.

The collision underscores the challenges of managing traffic at major hubs like Sheremetyevo, particularly during peak travel hours. Both airlines will work with Russian aviation authorities to establish the cause of the incident and prevent a recurrence.

The Moscow airport continues to operate, though the two grounded aircraft remain under inspection. Officials are expected to release a preliminary report in the coming days.
