Aviation News – Archer Aviation and Soracle, a joint venture between Japan Airlines and Sumitomo Corporation, have been chosen to spearhead air taxi services in Osaka, marking a major step toward advanced urban mobility in Japan.

The announcement, made on September 29, positions Archer as the only U.S. electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) manufacturer with a central role in Japan’s air mobility rollout. Soracle will integrate Archer’s Midnight aircraft into its fleet as part of agreements with Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City, aimed at establishing a regulatory and operational framework for air taxi flights across the Kansai region.

Archer’s Midnight aircraft is designed for short, urban trips, offering quiet, sustainable, and safe flights. Its introduction could significantly ease traffic congestion in densely populated areas while reducing environmental impact. The aircraft was recently showcased at the Osaka Kansai World Expo, highlighting its potential role in shaping Japan’s future transportation landscape.

“Partnering with Soracle to bring Midnight to Osaka is an important milestone,” said Archer CEO Adam Goldstein. “Together, we are working with Japanese leaders to make advanced air mobility a reality and to position Japan as a global leader in this emerging industry.”

With Soracle at the helm and strong government backing, the initiative signals Japan’s commitment to integrating next-generation transportation into daily life. Commercial air taxi operations are expected to enhance regional connectivity, attract global attention, and encourage other cities to explore similar mobility solutions.

The collaboration between Archer, Soracle, and Osaka underscores a shared ambition: building a safe, sustainable, and accessible air taxi network. As plans advance, Osaka could become a model for how cities worldwide embrace eVTOL technology to transform urban mobility.
