Japan Sends F-15J Fighter Jets to Britain for Joint Exercises

Aviation News – Japan will deploy its F-15J fighter jets to Britain for the first time, UK Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed on August 29, 2025, during a speech at the Pacific Future Forum in Tokyo. The move highlights closer security cooperation between the two countries.

The aircraft will come from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s 201st and 203rd Tactical Fighter Squadrons, based at Chitose Air Base in Hokkaidō. Their arrival in the UK is expected within weeks and will mark a significant milestone in bilateral defense ties.

Key Benefits and Improvements:

Strengthens military cooperation between the UK and Japan.

Improves training and coordination between air forces.

Provides new opportunities for exercises in European airspace.

Reinforces allied readiness and deterrence.

Once deployed, the F-15Js will join the Royal Air Force in combined training, flying joint missions and sharing tactics. This collaboration will help both forces respond more effectively in future operations.

“Japan’s first fighter deployment to the UK is a powerful demonstration of our growing defense partnership and our shared commitment to global security,” Defence Secretary Healey said in Tokyo.

Officials believe this step could lead to more frequent joint training and even broader cooperation between European and Asian allies. It sends a clear message about the importance of partnerships in today’s security environment.

The deployment of Japanese F-15s to Britain marks both a practical step in training and a symbolic sign of unity, showing that allies are preparing together for the challenges ahead.
