Aviation News – A large fire broke out at the Sanicole Airshow in Leopoldsburg, Belgium, during the evening flying display after a BushCat aircraft from Poland encountered problems while using pyrotechnics as part of its performance. The incident occurred during the second firework display of the evening.
The BushCat was taking part in the spectacular evening programme, in which several aircraft incorporated fire and fireworks effects into their routines. The incident developed during the BushCat performance, when the use of pyrotechnics was followed by a fire on the ground at the airshow site.
The flames quickly became clearly visible to spectators as the fire spread across a large area of vegetation. The incident caused concern among the thousands of visitors attending the evening show, although no spectators were directly affected.
The use of pyrotechnics during air displays requires carefully controlled separation distances and extensive safety measures, particularly when performances take place close to dry vegetation. The combination of aircraft, fire effects and evening conditions can create additional operational challenges for both the pilots and ground safety teams.
