Aviation News – Turkey’s defense sector achieved a significant milestone today as the first production-spec Hürjet advanced jet trainer successfully completed its maiden flight. The 18-minute flight on August 30, 2026, marks the transition from prototype testing to operational readiness for the Turkish Air Force.
Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the Hürjet program represents a major leap forward in Turkey’s domestic aviation and defense capabilities. The aircraft was built specifically for the operational delivery configuration requested by military leadership, following extensive ground integration, final assembly, and taxi evaluations.
While two initial developmental aircraft previously carried out preliminary flight testing, this newest airframe reflects the final design standard set for serial production. The development initiative aims to modernize air fleet training assets while providing an agile platform capable of fulfilling light combat roles.
The advanced jet trainer integrates modern avionics, optimized aerodynamics, and digital flight control systems designed to prepare pilots for fifth-generation fighter operations. Its operational flexibility allows it to perform both close air support and high-performance training missions, reducing reliance on aging legacy platforms.
