Aviation News – Leonardo has secured a contract from ITPS Canada for six M-346 T Block 20 advanced jet trainers to support the expansion of tactical fighter pilot training for NATO and allied air forces in North Bay, Ontario. The deal marks a major step in strengthening next-generation pilot readiness as demand for advanced training capabilities continues to grow.
The agreement includes six aircraft, with options for an additional six units, and will support operations at the International Tactical Training Centre (ITTC) in Canada. The aircraft are scheduled to begin entering service in 2029, reflecting increasing demand among NATO members and partner nations for modern tactical pilot training as air forces transition to more complex fifth-generation combat aircraft.
The M-346 T Block 20 is designed to replicate the operational environment of frontline fighter jets, enabling trainee pilots to prepare for modern combat scenarios before moving into operational aircraft. Its embedded simulation systems, advanced avionics, and integrated training technologies allow pilots to practice mission scenarios in a cost-effective and highly realistic environment, reducing pressure on frontline fleets while improving training quality.
