Airbus Unveils First A350 Freighter in Unique “Flying Parcel” Livery Ahead of Maiden Flight

AviationNews – Airbus has officially unveiled its first fully assembled A350 freighter, designated MSN700, featuring a unique “flying parcel” livery at its facilities in France. This milestone marks a significant step forward as the aerospace giant prepares the new-generation cargo aircraft for its highly anticipated maiden flight later this year.

The striking “delivery box” design stems from a global livery competition hosted by Airbus, which attracted roughly 4,000 creative entries. The manufacturer eventually merged two winning concepts—submitted by an Irish graphic designer and two Canadian brothers—to form the final aesthetic applied to the MSN700 test aircraft. Having recently emerged from the paint shop, the aircraft will now undergo extensive ground testing. Airbus launched the A350F program in 2021 to challenge historical market dominance in the heavy cargo sector, successfully securing over 100 orders to date.

Built with a lightweight carbon airframe and powered by advanced Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the A350F promises remarkable operational efficiency. It features the largest main deck cargo door in the industry and is engineered to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by at least 20% compared to competitor aircraft, and up to 40% compared to the older freighters it replaces. This gives cargo operators a sustainable, high-capacity solution capable of meeting stringent upcoming international environmental standards.

“Innovation is at the core of the A350F’s design and production. Understanding the demands of modern logistics, we designed the A350F with operators,” Airbus stated regarding the freighter’s development, emphasizing its alignment with the industry’s decarbonization goals.

Industry sources project that the MSN700 could take to the skies for its first test flight as early as late September 2026, slightly ahead of initial end-of-year predictions. This maiden flight will kick off a rigorous, year-long certification campaign. Aviation enthusiasts and logistics companies will be closely monitoring the testing phase, as the aircraft’s real-world performance will pave the way for its commercial debut.

The rollout of the A350F MSN700 is a major achievement for Airbus as it aggressively targets the global air cargo market. With initial customer deliveries slated for the second half of 2027, the aircraft is well-positioned to modernize worldwide freight operations.
