New Air Force One Jet Could Arrive by July 4

Aviation News – The U.S. Air Force is aiming to deliver a Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar into the Air Force One fleet by the Fourth of July, allowing the aircraft to participate in America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The accelerated timeline follows a White House request to rapidly modernize the luxury jet for presidential operations.

The aircraft was formally accepted by the White House in 2025 after Qatar offered the jet as a state gift. The U.S. Air Force selected L3Harris to oversee the extensive modifications needed to transform the aircraft into a secure presidential transport platform. The effort comes as delays continue to affect the long-running replacement program for the current Air Force One fleet, increasing pressure to introduce an interim solution ahead of major national events.

The upgraded aircraft will require advanced communications systems, enhanced defensive capabilities, secure command-and-control technology, and modifications to meet strict presidential transport standards. While the donated jet already features a luxury interior, military engineers must adapt the aircraft to support secure global operations and ensure it can function as an airborne command center during crises or emergencies.
