Aviation News – The U.S. Air Force has introduced a bold new red, white, gold and dark blue paint scheme for its executive airlift fleet, including the next-generation Air Force One, signaling a visual shift for one of America’s most recognizable aircraft and marking the first major redesign in decades.
The service confirmed Tuesday that the updated livery will replace the long-standing white and two-tone blue design that dates back to the administration of John F. Kennedy. The new look also incorporates elements reminiscent of a red, white and blue proposal advanced during the presidency of Donald Trump, which was shelved in 2022 after concerns that darker tones could increase aircraft surface temperatures. Officials said the revised palette addresses those earlier technical challenges while preserving a more modern, distinctive identity for the fleet.
The redesign will appear across multiple executive transport aircraft operated by the United States Air Force, including the forthcoming Boeing VC-25B presidential jets that are replacing the current Boeing VC-25A models. Engineers balanced aesthetics with operational requirements, selecting lighter tones and reflective finishes to reduce heat absorption while maintaining durability and ease of maintenance during global deployments.
