Aviation News – The Navy has officially signed a 65-acre lease at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston, marking a critical milestone for a new maintenance and overhaul facility. This strategic agreement secures the infrastructure necessary for Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) to begin essential support operations for elite military aircraft later this year.
The lease agreement, finalized on April 15, represents a significant partnership between the U.S. Navy and the state of North Carolina. By securing this expansive plot at the Global TransPark, FRCE is positioned to create a massive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hub. This development follows years of planning to expand the command’s regional footprint and enhance the readiness of the nation’s heavy-lift and rescue fleets.
The Kinston facility will serve as a specialized depot for several high-priority airframes across multiple branches of the military. Operations are currently scheduled to commence in September, providing a dedicated workspace for the Navy and Marine Corps’ C/KC-130 Hercules and Super Hercules transport aircraft. Additionally, the site will handle the Air Force’s HH-60W Jolly Green II search and rescue helicopters, consolidating critical logistics under one roof.
From a technical perspective, the FRCE facility functions as a high-capacity depot capable of performing deep-level airframe inspections and structural repairs. This operational impact is vital for the C/KC-130 fleet, which provides essential refueling and transport capabilities in global conflict zones. By shifting these tasks to the dedicated Kinston site, the military can reduce maintenance turnaround times and ensure that these workhorse aircraft return to the flight line faster than ever before.
