Aviation News – Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has recorded a significant double-digit growth in air traffic for February 2026, signaling a robust recovery for the global aviation hub. This surge, driven largely by holiday travel and increased transit demand, underscores the airport’s pivotal role in connecting East Asia with the rest of the world.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) reported that the facility handled 5.42 million passenger trips during the month, representing a 20.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was punctuated by a record-breaking peak on February 22, 2026, when daily volume exceeded 210,000 trips, a feat attributed to the travel rush surrounding the Chinese New Year festivities.

Beyond holiday tourism, the combined data for January and February highlights a shift in international travel patterns. The AAHK noted that a 30 percent year-on-year growth in transfer and transit traffic was the primary engine behind the volume spike. This indicates that HKIA is successfully reclaiming its status as a preferred stopover point for long-haul travelers.

On the logistics front, the airport’s cargo throughput rose by 8.2 percent in the first two months of the year, totaling 776,000 tons. Technical efficiency in handling high-volume freight allowed for significant gains in trade with Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, ensuring that supply chains remain fluid despite fluctuating global economic conditions.
