AviationNews – Embraer officially identified the Republic of Uzbekistan as the previously anonymous customer for the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft during the Singapore Airshow. This high-profile announcement confirms that Uzbekistan will become the first nation in Central Asia to operate the advanced multi-mission platform.

The reveal concludes months of speculation regarding the “undisclosed customer” status of the order. By selecting the C-390, the Uzbek Air Force enters a growing global user group that includes nations across Europe, South America, and Asia. This procurement is a central pillar of Uzbekistan’s efforts to modernize its aerial logistics and defense infrastructure, transitioning away from older airframes to a platform capable of handling the demanding geography and strategic requirements of the region.

From a technical standpoint, the C-390 Millennium offers a significant upgrade in tactical transport capabilities, featuring a maximum payload of 26 tons. It is designed to operate out of restricted environments, including unpaved or temporary runways, making it ideal for the diverse terrain of Central Asia. The aircraft’s speed of 470 knots and its ability to be quickly reconfigured for medical evacuation, firefighting, or search and rescue operations provide the Uzbek military with a versatile tool for both defense and humanitarian missions.

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, welcomed the new partnership, stating: “We officially welcome the Republic of Uzbekistan to the group of C-390 operators as the Uzbekistan Air Force modernizes its transport capabilities. We are honored by the choice of this leading Central Asia Air Force and will work in close coordination with them to ensure flawless operation of this revolutionary aircraft.”

This acquisition signals a shift in the regional defense market, as Central Asian nations increasingly look toward modern, NATO-interoperable technology. As the first operator in the area, Uzbekistan’s successful integration of the Millennium may serve as a blueprint for neighboring countries seeking to enhance their rapid response and disaster relief capabilities.

The delivery of these jets will provide Uzbekistan with a significant leap in strategic mobility and mission reliability. As Embraer expands its footprint in the East, this deal reinforces the C-390’s position as a dominant competitor in the global medium-sized transport segment.
