Germany has confirmed an order for 20 additional H145M light combat helicopters, strengthening its armed forces’ rotary-wing capabilities and signaling long-term confidence in the platform.

The decision exercises an option included in a December 2023 contract with Airbus Helicopters, raising the total German H145M fleet to 82 aircraft. The helicopters, designated Leichter Kampfhubschrauber (LKH), are intended to enhance operational flexibility across training, reconnaissance, and special operations missions.

The first H145M LKH was delivered in November 2024, less than a year after the contract was signed, with further deliveries already underway. Under the current plan, the German Army will receive 72 helicopters, while the Luftwaffe’s special forces will operate the remaining ten.

Operationally, the H145M is a proven multi-role platform known for its agility, digital avionics, and modular mission systems. Its design allows bolt-on equipment and weapons configurations, enabling rapid role changes from training to light attack, while maintaining high availability and low operating costs.
