Aviation News July 2, 2025 – Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) has completed the inaugural test flight of its Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi. This flight marks a major milestone in Archer’s plans to introduce commercial air taxi services in the United Arab Emirates and expand its operations across the Middle East.

The test flight was supported by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) and attended by senior representatives from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi Aviation, Abu Dhabi Airports, and regional partners.

The purpose of the flight was to assess the Midnight aircraft’s VTOL performance under UAE-specific environmental conditions, including high temperatures, elevated humidity, and dust exposure. These real-world operating conditions are critical for validating the aircraft’s readiness for commercial deployment in the region.

“This test flight is a meaningful step toward making Abu Dhabi a global leader in advanced urban air mobility,” said H.E. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO. “Through initiatives like the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster, we’re empowering companies such as Archer to test, certify, and scale the next generation of air mobility technology. It highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to innovation and its ambition to be a launchpad for transformative solutions.”

“Carrying out initial flight operations in the UAE is a crucial milestone for our commercial rollout,” said Adam Goldstein, CEO and Founder of Archer Aviation. “Testing the Midnight aircraft in the challenging conditions of the UAE summer provides us with invaluable performance data as we move forward with certification and operational planning both here and in the United States.”

Following this successful flight, Archer plans to expand its regional testing program, gathering additional data to support the aircraft’s certification process and operational readiness in the UAE and other global markets.

The test is part of Archer’s Launch Edition program in partnership with Abu Dhabi Aviation, aimed at establishing air taxi services across the emirate. This initiative is supported by recent regulatory and infrastructure advancements, including approval for the UAE’s first hybrid heliport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal.

Abu Dhabi will serve as the first Launch Edition market for Archer, highlighting the emirate’s role as a pioneer in urban air mobility (UAM) and its broader vision for sustainable, tech-driven transportation.
