South Korea Poised to Cancel Second Apache Helicopter Order Following Budget Cut

Aviation News – July 8, 2025 – South Korea is likely to scrap its planned acquisition of a second batch of 36 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, following a sharp reduction in the defense budget, a senior opposition lawmaker said on Monday.

Representative Yoo Yong-won of the People Power Party stated that the supplementary defense budget, approved by the National Assembly on July 4, reduced funding for the helicopter procurement from 10 billion won (approximately USD 7.3 million) to just 300 million won.

According to Yoo, the remaining funds are expected to be redirected toward an alternative defense initiative, signaling a shift in defense spending priorities amid fiscal constraints.
