De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has announced that Ethiopian Airlines, the largest and most successful airline in Africa, has signed a purchase agreement for two new Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft. This marks the airline’s first introduction of the 300-G model into its fleet, reaffirming its commitment to improving connectivity across remote and diverse regions of Ethiopia and East Africa.
The Twin Otter Classic 300-G is the latest version in the well-regarded Twin Otter family. It features exceptional short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability, strong durability, and modern avionics, making it highly suitable for regional flights in areas with difficult terrain and limited airport infrastructure.
“We are proud to welcome Ethiopian Airlines to the Twin Otter Classic 300-G family,” said Ryan DeBrusk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at De Havilland Canada. “Ethiopian Airlines has a stellar reputation in aviation, and their decision to choose the 300-G shows their trust in its ability to enhance regional connectivity, tourism, and development.”
The aircraft will be delivered with amphibious landing gear and will be used to expand Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic and regional routes. It will help the airline reach underserved airfields and remote destinations, including Ethiopia’s scenic lake regions, more frequently and dependably. Its flexible design allows for use in both passenger and cargo transport, supporting humanitarian, medical, and commercial needs.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, stated, “Adding the Twin Otter 300-G to our fleet supports our strategy to increase domestic connections and contribute to socio-economic development in Ethiopia and across Africa. We chose the 300-G for its reliable performance in tough conditions and modern features that match our operational and sustainability priorities. The aircraft will also be equipped for various missions, such as air ambulance services, airport calibration, and charters.”
With over 600 Twin Otters delivered globally, the aircraft is recognized for its versatility and dependability. The new 300-G model continues this tradition, offering enhanced payload capacity, better fuel efficiency, and upgraded cockpit technology.
