Aviation News July 2, 2025 – Embraer, a global leader in aerospace manufacturing, has officially delivered the first four of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Paraguayan Air Force (FAP). The delivery ceremony took place at Silvio Pettirossi Air Force Base, just outside Paraguay’s capital, and was attended by key national leaders, including President Santiago Peña, Vice President Pedro Alliana, Minister of National Defense Gen. (Ret.) Óscar González, and Air Force Commander Gen. Júlio Fullaondo, along with other military and civilian dignitaries.
This delivery marks a major milestone in Paraguay’s defense modernization efforts—the largest such acquisition in nearly four decades.
“These aircraft are more than just new additions to our fleet; they represent a leap forward in strengthening our operational capabilities,” said Gen. Júlio Fullaondo, Commander of the Paraguayan Air Force. “The A-29 Super Tucanos are outfitted with cutting-edge technology and will significantly enhance our surveillance and rapid response capabilities. This is not merely a defense expenditure but a long-term investment in national security, sovereignty, and sustainable development.”
Built for the demands of modern conflict and peacetime missions alike, the A-29 Super Tucano is renowned for its reliability, versatility, and mission flexibility. It is widely used for light attack, close air support, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and pilot training. So far, the platform has been selected by 22 air forces around the world, with over 290 aircraft ordered.
“We’re proud to deliver these first four aircraft to Paraguay,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The A-29 has earned a strong reputation globally due to its versatility, agility, and ability to perform a wide range of missions. We are confident it will meet both the current and future needs of the Paraguayan Air Force.”
The remaining two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the near future, completing a fleet that will play a key role in Paraguay’s air defense, border surveillance, and pilot training programs.
