The operator of a large solar farm near Schiphol Airport has been ordered by a Haarlem court to partially dismantle the facility due to dangerous glare affecting pilots. The Belgian firm Energy Solutions Group must remove 78,000 of the 230,000 panels from its Groene Energie Corridor project—half by 1 September, the rest by 15 October.
Since October 2024, sunlight reflecting off the panels has impaired visibility for aircraft approaching the Polderbaan runway, posing serious flight safety risks. If unresolved, Schiphol may be forced to close the critical runway for hours daily, causing delays and increased noise over the Amsterdam area.
