Aviation News- July 23, 2025 — Denmark has finalized the purchase of four MQ-9B SkyGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), supported by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The deal includes three Certified Ground Control Stations, marking a significant step in strengthening Denmark’s defense and surveillance capabilities.
The MQ-9B SkyGuardian is recognized for its long endurance, global satellite control, and ability to operate in extreme Arctic conditions, thanks to its de-icing technology. These features will support Denmark’s national and NATO missions, particularly in the Arctic and surrounding seas. The platform’s advanced Detect and Avoid System also enables safe integration into civilian airspace.
Denmark joins a growing list of European nations—including the UK, Belgium, and Poland—adopting the MQ-9B for multi-domain operations. The system is the first of its kind to receive a Military Type Certificate from the UK’s Military Aviation Authority, allowing unrestricted flight over populated areas.NSPA facilitated the acquisition under a cooperative framework to promote interoperability and joint operations among NATO allies.
