First Russian-Built MC-21-310 Featuring All Domestic Components Completes Maiden Flight

MC-21-310

Ulyanovsk, Russia – June 27 2025 – The Irkut MC-21-310 aircraft, the first version of the airliner built entirely with Russian-made components, has successfully completed its inaugural flight, marking a significant milestone for Russia’s civil aviation industry.

Manufactured by Irkut Corporation, part of United Aircraft Corporation under Rostec State Corporation, this MC-21-310 features domestically developed systems, avionics, and composite materials, and is powered by Russian PD-14 engines—designed by United Engine Corporation. The maiden flight took place at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant and lasted approximately 3.5 hours, during which the aircraft underwent testing of its propulsion, stability, and flight control systems.

This variant represents a major step in Russia’s strategic initiative to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers and mitigate the impact of international sanctions on its aerospace sector. The transition to fully domestic components was accelerated in response to export restrictions imposed in recent years, prompting a shift toward nationalizing the supply chain for critical aviation technologies.

The MC-21-310 is a narrow-body, medium-range passenger jet designed to compete with Western counterparts such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. It features a spacious cabin, modern aerodynamics, and fuel-efficient engines. The aircraft is expected to enter service with Russian carriers in the coming years, with certification and series production progressing under the oversight of Russian aviation authorities.
