Aviation News – Baykar has successfully tested a groundbreaking new capability for its combat-proven Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV), striking a designated target with pinpoint accuracy using FPV kamikaze drones developed by Skydagger. This milestone test highlights how modern medium-altitude long-endurance platforms are evolving to integrate decentralized tactical munitions.
During the evaluation at the Keşan Flight Training and Test Center in Edirne province, the Bayraktar TB2 took off carrying 16 Skydagger FPV drones before successfully releasing two units over the test area. The demonstration validated the combat platform’s structural payload capacity and its ability to transport swarming munitions over long distances.
Following deployment, the Bayraktar TB2 functioned as an airborne communications relay, maintaining a robust data connection between operators on the ground and the smaller loitering munitions. This setup allowed operators to pilot the FPV drones via a direct pilot’s-eye view camera feed, guiding them seamlessly into their targets with high precision.
“Integrating FPV technology with medium-altitude long-endurance platforms bridges the gap between wide-area strategic reconnaissance and close-range tactical strikes,” noted defense analysts tracking the evolution of unmanned combat systems. By utilizing a mothership drone to ferry short-range kamikaze assets, operators dramatically extend the effective tactical reach and operational flexibility of frontline units.
The successful test paves the way for advanced tactical doctrines that combine endurance surveillance with high-density, low-cost precision strike options on a single platform. As electronic warfare and battlefield dynamics shift rapidly, combat aircraft capable of deploying swarming secondary assets will likely set the benchmark for future military aviation designs.
