The company initiated the nationwide tour on September 10, 2026, flying its modified flight platform from California across the United States to the East Coast before returning. Built on a converted Cessna Caravan airframe, the J208 aircraft will perform operational flight demonstrations across a wide array of regional airspaces. The multi-state itinerary covers diverse operational environments designed to evaluate real-world system readiness for both government agencies and private logistics operators.
Through this campaign, Joby Aviation aims to demonstrate key air logistics capabilities, including commercial freight transport, disaster response, and medical supply delivery. Integrating specialized flight software onto an already certified airframe provides a practical foundation for immediate, scalable deployment. The program also accelerates work on military supply chains, supporting defense logistics without requiring newly certified airframe architectures.
The J208 aircraft operates through a supervised autonomy model where a ground-based remote pilot acts as the pilot in command.
