Aviation News – The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has officially commissioned three new Bell 429 helicopters to support law enforcement operations in North Queensland. This strategic expansion doubles the agency’s Bell fleet, creating the largest dedicated Bell law enforcement aviation unit in Australia to enhance regional security and emergency response.

The delivery, announced by Bell Textron Inc., a subsidiary of Textron Inc., brings the total number of Bell aircraft in the QPS hangar to six. This acquisition follows a long-term plan to modernize the state’s aerial assets, ensuring that officers in the northern regions have the same high-level support as those in more densely populated areas. The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the Texas-based manufacturer and the Queensland government.

By integrating these advanced aircraft into their daily operations, the QPS is better equipped to handle the unique geographical challenges of North Queensland. The new helicopters will be primarily utilized for patrolling, search and rescue, and providing direct support to on-ground policing initiatives. This development ensures a more robust and unified aviation network across the state, allowing for faster response times in critical situations.
