Aviation News – Leading turboprop lessor Abelo has officially exercised three additional options for the ATR 72-600, expanding its commitment to high-efficiency regional aviation. The move follows a significant agreement established during the 2023 Dubai Airshow, marking a major step in the firm’s growth strategy.

This latest transaction brings Abelo’s total firm orders for the series to 36 aircraft, while the company maintains nine remaining options and purchase rights. The new units are scheduled for delivery in 2027, allowing the lessor to meet rising demand for regional connectivity. Abelo has seen rapid success with its current orderbook, already placing or delivering a third of its total commitments to diverse international markets.

The partnership has enabled Abelo to extend its global footprint across multiple continents, supplying aircraft to prominent carriers such as SKY Express and Aegean in Greece, as well as SATENA in Colombia. Earlier this year, the lessor further demonstrated its market reach by providing Ethiopian Airlines with two brand-new turboprops. These strategic placements highlight the continued relevance of turboprop technology in modern airline fleets.

The ATR 72-600 is widely recognized as the most fuel-efficient regional aircraft in its class, utilizing advanced turboprop technology to consume significantly less fuel than comparable regional jets. This operational efficiency translates to lower CO2 emissions and reduced operating costs, making it a critical tool for airlines serving short-haul routes or noise-sensitive airports. By focusing on these assets, Abelo provides carriers with a cost-effective and sustainable solution for maintaining essential regional links.
