Aviation News – The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing a $930.77 million contract to continue work on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Service Life Modification program.
The effort extends the operational lifespan of frontline fighter jets, ensuring fleet readiness and cost-effective capability.
Under the contract, Boeing will modify up to 60 Super Hornet aircraft, increasing their service life from 6,000 to 10,000 flight hours. The program supports the Navy’s strategy to sustain combat capability while newer platforms are introduced, reinforcing long-term operational planning.
The Service Life Modification process includes structural inspections, repairs, and upgrades to key airframe components. These changes bolt durability and reliability into aging aircraft, allowing them to safely operate for thousands of additional flight hours without compromising mission performance.
