Aviation News – Transportation officials are preparing to reduce air traffic by 10 percent at 40 major airports across the country, a move expected to disrupt travel at several major hubs starting Friday.

Transportation authorities have signaled that the reductions, prompted by the continuing government shutdown, could impact airports in major cities including New York, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Seattle. Airport representatives said that, as of late Thursday afternoon, they had not yet received full operational details from federal officials. The announced traffic cuts are set to begin immediately at the end of the week.

The cuts are expected to reduce the number of flights that can depart or arrive during peak hours, potentially resulting in longer delays, scheduling adjustments, and cancellations. Airport trade groups have expressed concern that airlines and travelers will have little time to adapt to the new restrictions, increasing the likelihood of disruptions.
