Aviation News – Flight operations at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands were repeatedly halted on Wednesday because of a shortage of military air traffic controllers, raising fears of a domino effect with possible cancellations and diversions to other airports.
Hundreds of passengers experienced delays during the morning, and the airport warned that disruption could spread throughout the day as flight schedules fell out of sync. Eindhoven Airport operates from Vliegbasis Eindhoven, a military airfield where the Defence air traffic service manages all aircraft movements. Due to understaffing, air traffic was suspended at several points to allow remaining staff to take mandatory breaks.
The issue stems from the central military air traffic control centre at Schiphol-Oost, which manages airspace outside a 30-kilometre radius of Eindhoven. Between 09:00 and 10:30, no flights departed. Wizz Air and Ryanair services to Budapest, London, and Sofia were delayed, along with arrivals such as Ryanair’s Porto flight.
