Aviation News – German drone manufacturer Wingcopter has unveiled the Wingcopter 262, an all-electric reconnaissance drone capable of remaining airborne for up to six hours. This vertical takeoff aircraft expands the company’s military footprint, offering long-range intelligence gathering without requiring launch catapults or traditional runways.
The launch follows the creation of the Wingcopter Security & Defence division earlier this year, marking a strategic expansion beyond logistics and aerial surveying. Featuring a wingspan of 2.62 meters and a maximum takeoff weight of 10 kg, the aircraft delivers a tactical operating range of 150 kilometers. Wingcopter is also partnering with Ukrainian manufacturer TAF Industries under the “Build with Ukraine” initiative to support mass production and make the platform available to frontline forces.
Drawing on more than a decade of unmanned aviation development, the company engineered the aircraft for rapid deployment in contested environments. The system integrates modular payloads, including electro-optical and infrared cameras supported by artificial intelligence capabilities. Additionally, the aircraft incorporates field-tested positioning technology to maintain accurate navigation even when satellite signals face severe jamming or disruption.
The tilt-rotor configuration enables vertical takeoff and landing before transitioning seamlessly into efficient fixed-wing flight. A single operator can assemble and prepare the aircraft for action within minutes, while swappable battery packs minimize operational downtime on the ground. Built-in system compatibility also allows the drone to feed real-time video and data streams directly into existing battle management systems.
