The flight test took place in Tucson, Arizona, operating out of Morris Air National Guard Base. During the trial, two F-16 fighter jets flew equipped with Lockheed Martin’s Legion Pod sensor systems integrated with HiveLink, an advanced data link developed by L3Harris. The test was conducted in close collaboration with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Test Center (AATC) to evaluate real-time sensor sharing between separate airborne platforms.

The Legion Pod utilizes infrared search and track capabilities to detect and track enemy aircraft without relying on radar emissions. By integrating the pre-production HiveLink system, the pods established direct, high-speed communication between the two fighters. This collaborative network allows multiple platforms to merge passive target data instantly, creating higher track accuracy and eliminating the need for traditional radar systems that might reveal an aircraft’s location.

From an operational standpoint, this technology drastically reduces the time required for pilots to calculate precise fire-control solutions against multiple threat targets. By sharing passive sensor data in real time, tactical formations can coordinate attacks faster while maintaining electromagnetic stealth. This capability provides a critical operational advantage when operating against modern integrated air defense networks and sophisticated electronic warfare threats.
