Aviation News – Air Force Global Strike Command has officially launched the North Star Readiness Campaign, a major tri-agency initiative designed to significantly increase the number of mission-capable B-52 Stratofortress and B-1 Lancer strategic bombers. Formed in partnership with Air Force Materiel Command and the Defense Logistics Agency, the campaign targets critical logistics bottlenecks to ensure America’s long-range strike fleet remains ready for global operations.
The enterprise-wide effort comes as a direct response to the strategic imperative of maintaining an available and formidable U.S. bomber force amid growing international demands. Operating under joint oversight, the three organizations are unifying efforts to streamline supply chain pipelines, accelerate engineering support, and shorten depot maintenance turnarounds. While long-term modernization efforts continue for the heavy bomber fleet, the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber will simultaneously be sustained for maximum combat effectiveness until the next-generation B-21 Raider reaches full operational capacity.
By cutting through traditional administrative silos, the campaign directly addresses component delays and depot-level maintenance backlogs. Daily tactical reviews now bring base maintainers and logistics personnel together to resolve parts shortages in real time. Initial results demonstrate that emergency supply delivery windows have been reduced from over a week down to just two or three days, helping maintenance crews return aircraft to active flight lines far more quickly.
