Aviation News – SMBC Aviation Capital expands global fleet
Global leasing giant SMBC Aviation Capital has signed a firm order for 100 Airbus A320neo family aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow. The deal, finalized on July 20, 2026, secures a critical narrowbody delivery pipeline for international airlines into the next decade.
The major transaction comprises 65 A321neo and 35 A320neo single-aisle aircraft. This latest agreement reinforces a quarter-century relationship between Dublin-based SMBC Aviation Capital and European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Together with its parent company Sumitomo Corporation, the finance platform now accounts for more than 900 total commitments directly from Airbus across all aircraft types.
The multi-billion-dollar selection highlights robust global demand for efficient narrowbody passenger jets as commercial airlines work to expand route networks and replace aging fleets. By securing a substantial position in the manufacturer’s order book, SMBC Aviation Capital ensures its airline clients maintain early access to high-demand aircraft delivery slots despite widespread industry production backlogs.
