Air Cambodia signed a pivotal agreement with Chinese aerospace manufacturer COMAC on July 17, 2026, to acquire 20 C909 regional jets, marking a major milestone as the first large foreign commitment for the aircraft platform. Air Cambodia established operations in 2025 as the official successor to Cambodia Angkor Air. The airline currently operates a modest fleet consisting of three ATR72-600 turboprops, two Airbus A320s, and one Airbus A321. By introducing these new Chinese-built regional jets, the carrier equips itself with scalable, modern hardware to build high-density short-haul connections.
Engineered specifically for short-to-medium routes, the twin-engine COMAC C909 seats between 78 and 97 passengers and offers an operational range of up to 3,700 kilometers. Its technical profile excels on short and narrow runways, as well as in high-temperature and high-altitude conditions frequently encountered throughout Southeast Asian airports. These capabilities allow Air Cambodia to optimize route economics while linking regional tourism and trade centers.
