Aviation News – A US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress 60-0061 crashed, eight occupants perished and the aircraft was destroyed, shortly after taking off from Edwards Air Force Base, California, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
The Pentagon confirmed the crash without elaborating on what led up to the incident.
“We can confirm a U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff on the Edwards airfield at 11:20 a.m.,” Pentagon officials said. “Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene and the situation is ongoing.”
The B-52 Stratofortress is one of the United States’ most important long-range strategic bombers and has been in service since the 1950s.
