Aviation News – Textron Aviation has successfully completed the first flight of the Cessna Citation M2 Gen3 prototype, marking a significant milestone in the development of the next-generation entry-level business jet. The aircraft took off from Wichita, Kansas, on May 30, 2026, officially entering the flight-testing phase.
The Citation M2 Gen3 is the latest evolution of Textron Aviation’s popular light jet family. The prototype’s maiden flight represents a key step toward certification and entry into service. Developed as the successor to the current M2 platform, the aircraft is designed to offer enhanced capabilities while maintaining the performance and efficiency that have made the Citation series a leading choice in the light jet market.
During its first test flight, the aircraft remained airborne for 1 hour and 47 minutes. The prototype reached an altitude of 20,500 feet and achieved a maximum speed of 250 knots. Flight-test activities will now focus on validating aircraft systems, handling characteristics, performance targets, and overall operational reliability as the program progresses toward certification.
