AviationNews – Textron Aviation has officially delivered the first Cessna Citation Ascend to an undisclosed retail customer, signaling the formal entry into service for the latest evolution of the world’s best-selling midsize business jet family. This milestone follows the aircraft receiving its FAA type certification in November 2025, solidifying its place as the next-generation successor in the popular 560XL series.
The handover, which took place at the company’s headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, represents a major achievement for the Cessna brand. Since the series’ inception, over 1,000 aircraft from the Excel, XLS, XLS+, and XLS Gen2 lines have been delivered, and the Ascend was designed based on extensive customer feedback to modernize this legacy. The new model was first introduced at the 2023 EBACE convention and underwent a rigorous flight test program involving over 1,000 hours of aerial evaluation before reaching this inaugural delivery.
Technically, the Citation Ascend introduces several “firsts” for the 560XL family, most notably a completely flat floor that provides enhanced legroom and passenger mobility. The flight deck features the advanced Garmin G5000 avionics suite, equipped with autothrottle technology and synthetic vision to reduce pilot workload. Powered by dual Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, the jet offers a four-passenger range of 1,940 nautical miles and a maximum cruise speed of 441 knots, while an unattended Honeywell RE100 [XL] APU allows for more efficient cabin temperature management on the ground.
