This high-profile strategic selection allows the tech pioneer and its urban mobility partners to deploy autonomous passenger aircraft within the high-density metropolis, signaling a rapid acceleration for advanced air mobility across the region.
The selection establishes a formal operational alliance between the advanced air mobility tech platform, Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility Co., Ltd, and the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited. Announced on June 23, 2026, the comprehensive development program aims to establish a transparent framework for unconventional aircraft applications. The cooperative network will pool infrastructure resources and logistical expertise to advance compliant demonstration flights and validate commercial use cases in the skies above Hong Kong.
This critical cross-border expansion builds upon a deeply rooted technological foundation that the tech firm has established within the mainland Chinese market. The company remains a global frontrunner in the vertical flight landscape after becoming the world’s first developer to secure a type certificate, production certificate, and standard airworthiness certificate from Chinese regulators for an autonomous, passenger-carrying vehicle.
On a technical level, the trials will utilize EHang’s flagship aircraft model, the EH216-S, which is a pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft built to perform short-to-medium range urban hops. The zero-emission, battery-powered multi-rotor system uses advanced automated flight algorithms managed by a centralized ground command center, eliminating the need for an on-board pilot while providing automated navigation, fail-safe backups, and intelligent routing.
