The Greek Parliament’s Special Permanent Committee on Armament Programs and Contracts greenlit the procurement package during a high-level session on Thursday. This decision marks the official selection of Embraer’s flagship military transport, a move that Greece has actively evaluated over the past year to phase out its older, maintenance-heavy Lockheed C-130 Hercules fleet. The defense package also integrates an undisclosed number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to strengthen maritime and border reconnaissance.
By diversifying its defense partnerships with Brazil, the U.S., and Israel, Athens reinforces its logistical readiness within the NATO alliance. Embraer secured the contract following a series of successful technical presentations to the Hellenic Air Force, demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility in challenging Mediterranean environments. The Embraer C-390 Millennium functions as a multi-mission tactical cargo aircraft utilizing advanced fly-by-wire technology, which reduces pilot workload and increases flight precision.
