Aviation News – Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is confident its E2 regional jets will eventually enter the Chinese aviation market, according to Commercial Aviation CEO Arjan Meijer. The move could strengthen the company’s presence in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing aviation sectors while complementing China’s domestically developed aircraft programs.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit (WATS) in Rio de Janeiro, Meijer highlighted Embraer’s long-term commitment to China. The executive noted that the company maintains a dedicated team in Beijing that works daily with Chinese stakeholders. Embraer believes its E2 family can fill a market niche alongside locally produced aircraft as China continues expanding its commercial aviation capabilities.

The E2 jet family is designed for regional and short-haul operations, offering improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and reduced operating costs compared with previous-generation regional aircraft. These characteristics make the aircraft attractive for airlines seeking to develop routes with moderate passenger demand while maintaining profitability and environmental performance.

“We have a dedicated team in Beijing, they’re day-to-day working in China,” Meijer told Reuters during the industry gathering in Rio de Janeiro, underscoring Embraer’s ongoing efforts to build relationships and support future opportunities in the Chinese market.

If Embraer succeeds in securing E2 sales in China, the development could open a significant growth avenue for the manufacturer. Demand for regional connectivity is expected to increase as Chinese airlines expand networks beyond major metropolitan hubs, creating opportunities for aircraft that efficiently serve secondary and emerging markets.

China remains a strategically important market for global aerospace manufacturers, and Embraer’s ambitions reflect confidence in the long-term demand for regional aviation solutions. While no timeline for E2 entry into China has been announced, the company’s continued engagement suggests it is positioning itself to benefit from future fleet expansion and modernization efforts across the country. As air travel demand continues to rise, the Embraer E2 could become an important component of China’s evolving aviation landscape.
